San Juan Islands Prepare is readying our community to withstand natural disasters by fostering a collaboration among individuals, organizations and local government, and other preparedness organizations with goal of enhancing the resilience of our Islands through mutual aid.
During a disaster such as an earthquake, the burden on our courageous first responders will focus on the core infrastructure of our town, leaving our neighborhoods to rely upon themselves. This is where the strength of our community becomes crucial, with neighbors uniting to support one another through a shared objective of community care.
Our current volunteers are highly skilled, including physicians, nurses, construction workers, firefighters, boaters, counselers, FM Radio emergency programmer, pilot, growers, teachers, hospice workers, biologists, welder, blacksmith, wildlife management and rescue, ham radio operators, survivalists, firearm experts, search & rescue, food storage experts, heavy equipment operators, Fire Wize representatives. Equipment available includes chainsaws, 4 wheel drive vehicles, tractor, boats. Volunteers have offered land for growing food and extra bedrooms at home for housing in the event of an emergency.
