Care Before Crisis

With the support of our donors, San Juan Islands PREPARE has responded to recent flooding in Washington and delivered urgently needed provisions to members of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation displaced by wildfire.

We do not operate as freelance responders. We deploy in coordination with members of Washington Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (WA VOAD), helping ensure that resources address verified unmet needs without duplicating the work of other organizations.


All donations to the Care Before Crisis Campaign are designated exclusively for emergency disaster response.

Emergency Communications Equipment

Amateur radio communications can become vital during prolonged power and internet outages. Our mobile emergency communication units are designed to be interoperable, reliable, and easily moved between designated emergency shelter sites. Operated by trained, licensed volunteers, they will help maintain communications with emergency partners when conventional systems are unavailable.
The donation button will activate on August 13 to coincide with the San Juan Island Community Foundation “SJI Cares” Fundraising Campaign.

Storage Hub for Lopez

The American Red Cross recently deployed the storage trailer that housed emergency supplies for Lopez Island shelters, leaving an important preparedness gap in our community. We still have supplies, but we need a secure place to store them near the emergency shelter. Lopez School, a designated Emergency Shelter, has given permission to put a storage container or trailer to be placed on campus. The total estimated cost is $5,500. The estimate is subject to change based upon availability and current market prices. When we reach funding goal, we will evaluate both new and used storage units.
