San Juan Islands Prepare is working on developing a Neighborhood Network to empower neighbors to stay connected during prolonged power outages. To reach as many areas as possible, we will install a GMRS repeater, aiming to fund and complete it in 2026.
The Neighborhood Teams are a critical element in effectively organizing the community’s ability to use this network when needed. Teams will be organized around a central ‘Team Captain’ who will initiate regular testing and check-in exercises with Neighbors (FRS and GMRS Radios) and Neighborhood Zone Leads (GMRS and HAM Radios). All participants in Nets will need to understand the ‘rules of the road’ and follow proper ‘etiquette’ when using the GMRS system.
